Vaccination
What is a vaccination?
A vaccination is a form of prevention against certain viruses and bacteria, stimulating the production of antibodies which prevents or reduces the severity of disease from these viruses and bacteria in future when infected.
How can I avoid over-vaccinating my pet?
A Vaccicheck® antibody titer blood test is recommended instead of yearly vaccination booster if your cat is assessed to be at low risk of infection.
VacciCheck® Blood Test (Vaccine Antibody Titer)
VacciCheck® is an in-house blood test (results in 30-40 minutes) which assesses antibody levels against the following infectious viruses for cats:
- Feline Panleukopaenia Virus (FPV)
- Feline Calici Virus (FCV)
- Feline Herpes Virus (FHV)
VacciCheck®, together with a lifestyle risk assessment with the veterinarian, determines if a vaccination booster is needed. Many cats that were properly vaccinated when younger may not need booster vaccinations for several years. This reduces the risks of potential adverse reactions to vaccines, while still ensuring protection against potentially deadly infectious diseases.
VacciCheck® is recommended for all cats yearly together with the annual health assessment.
As a pioneer practice in Singapore using Vaccicheck® since 2013, we are experienced in the interpretation of Vaccicheck results and associated recommendation for cat owners.
